Why I choose to run.

Monday 14th Sep Hi, I'm Rebecca. I'm a young girl in Australia and I, choose to run for all girls, everywhere. 1 in 2 women will experience sexual harassment in their life time in Australia and 1 in 4 women have faced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner since the age of 15 ioni Australia. I think it's absolutely astonishing that we need female only spaces, female only cars, female only buses, female only gyms, etc. because grown men can't be trusted around women and girls and this is considered completely NORMAL!? Why is it that if you're born with XX chromosomes and not XY it puts a target on your back, that you must be treated as less than, as less important, less than human, just an extension of a man, why must girls be punished for something they can not choose. We cannot stay silent for longer, these statistics will not just go away, they will continue to fester and grow like poison swept under a rug. I fear that that there will be a day where every young girl and women will ALL have a story of violence, where going outside as a women is a death sentence, where predators walk free and women are silenced. Those before me have now handed the battle onto the next generation. I will now walk for all girls, everywhere because everyone, is entitled to feel safe. Share
