Women should be #SafeEverywhereAlways

From home to work, and everywhere in between, safety is non-negotiable.

Women and girls should be able to walk down a street without fear, study without intimidation, work without harassment, and use the internet without enduring abuse. Yet, an estimated 736 million women globally – almost one in three – have been subjected to physical and or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime.

In Australia, women face a 1 in 3 chance of being assaulted, and 1 in 2 will experience sexual harassment.

These are not just statistics; it’s a national disgrace. And when one woman is being violently killed every four days in Australia, we can’t afford to stay silent.

What are we doing?

UN Women works to prevent and respond to violence against women across the globe by:

Expanding access to services, such as mental, physical and sexual health care, post-rape care and counselling.
Implementing initiatives to address sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in public spaces.
Improving knowledge and providing guidance around implementing laws, policies and programs.
Advocating to end violence against women through the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Safe. Everywhere. Always. supports the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women

The UN Trust Fund is the only global grant-giving mechanism exclusively dedicated to preventing and ending violence against women and girls globally. By funding violence prevention programs, legislation and improving access to essential services for victims, the UN Trust Fund has improved the lives of millions of women and girls over the last 25 years.

Your support these 16 Days of Activism will directly contribute to these life-saving initiatives and help ensure that every woman and girl can live free from violence.
