This is for women and girls everywhere....

Hi family and friends, from November 25th, I’m going to be walking for a cause that is close to my heart.

Every woman and girl around the world, deserves to feel Safe. Everywhere. Always. – at home, at the gym, even online - and that is why I’m joining UN Women Australia in the walk to end violence against women and girls.

Help me reach my fundraising goal and we can help to build a better future for women and girls around the world.

Arthur's Seat hike

Saturday 7th Dec
Has been an extremely hot week here in Victoria and work commitments had me unavailable to walk most days. Made it up with an 8km hike from Arthur's Seat to Dromana Pier this afternoon, then with a cut through back up to the top with the help of the gondola.

George Bass Walk: Sunday 1st of December

Monday 2nd Dec
The beginning of "Summer" and what a day for it!
Started early in the morning, just as the sun was rising over the horizon (due mainly to plans in the afternoon) and with only the full intention of going one way of the walk from Punchbowl road to Kilcunda, with the family picking me up at the end.
However, after reaching Kilcunda and after a coffee, sit down and admiring the view, I sent a message to the team to let them know that I will walk back to my car.
Whilst this is a courtesy, because they had planned to collect me, the other aspect is safety.

The thought did not escape me throughout my walk that as a woman in my "mid-life" a walk like this should not be dangerous, but reality was I was vigilant throughout- which didn't allow me to really enjoy the hike.
It saddens me that I cannot hike even simple treks without notifying someone of my attention, constantly checking in and putting my GPS locator on. In fact, all of the above it good safety practise for everyone so thats not really the crux of it, its more to the point, the arguing with my partner about walking alone- when really it should not be a problem.
Those arguments end up with generally me not going, or the whole family attending and the kids complaining all of the way... not enjoyable for any of us.

But whilst I was ruminating on not being able to walk alone on my trek back to the car, I recalled one of my scarier experiences (2005) when I was walking my dog in the suburbs of Melbourne and two men tried to convince me to get into the back of their car as my "husband" was looking for me. Luckily enough, they were scared of my dog, a retriever collie x, far less scary than the Great Dane after her or the German shepherd I now own.

I didn't report it, I went home mentioned what had happened amongst tears to the then current boyfriend and was blamed by said boyfriend for potentially "asking for it".

Would that scenario be the same now?
Would I be able to report it and be taken seriously?
I hope the times have changed enough now that it would.
As a female, the harsh reality is that situations can befall us anytime and anywhere.
